The Plan
We aim to make an electronic voting system with open standards. Note that this does not mean that the machine itself is "open" to the election staff; merely that the standards of the machine are known and any exploitable weaknesses can be dealt with by those who are able to deal with such things.
This project is both hardware and software, and both schematic diagrams and written works (including software) will be released under the GPL.
This is the GPL Voting Machine. For this reason, we call it the GPL-VM. We may change the name of the machine as it comes time to market, but the internal designation will always be GPL-VM.
This system should be used to speed voting counts, not to supplant paper ballots.
The Assignments
GPL'd voting machines are unassigned at the moment. There are individuals working on things at will. No specific assignments are currently in force.
Purchases and Construction
We would make the plans available so that others could build the machines. Donations to our cause would serve to build and transport machines to countries who want machines and cannot afford them. Donations would also serve to revoke certification for machines whose voting integrity cannot be verified.
